1969 Shelby GT500 Fastback Never Sold In America May Finally Reach Our Soil

For 1969 model year Ford produced exactly 1,402 Shelby GT500 cars. This one is number 500 and it, as seems, never saw the US soil after Ford sold it to a customer in Canada. That may well be its biggest asset at the next scheduled auction at the Mecum Auctions Las Vegas event. Aside from the meticulous condition, of course.

After all, the car has covered 48,000 miles. That’s next to nothing in my book (for a car ordered in November 1968 and produced in January 1969). Although some may like the classic looks of 1967 original, the 1969 Shelby GT500 was the one to bring a major facelift.  This one is 4 inches longer, has a different looking front end and it came just a half year before Ford and Shelby parted their ways. In short, the 1969 Shelby GT500 is unlike any other out there. Heck, 789 unsold 1969 Shelby GT500’s were altered to become 1970 Shelby GT500. All with VIN number change and Boss front lip additions. A felony act, but Ford did it with FBI supervision, so it made it legal.
